These were the words of Shopify's President when he made a statement a few months ago.

Which I think is a great introduction to this blog post, which delves into Shopify POS. The word "Omnichannel" has long been a buzzword, but I believe that within the next two years, it will become the new norm.

Brands need to be where their customers are and adapt their behavior accordingly. Whether you call it Commerce or E-commerce, we will see an interplay of these approaches, and you need to be where your customers are.

If your customers need to see and try your products in a physical store, it requires a POS, which we will explore in this post.

What is Shopify POS?

Shopify POS is Shopify's own point-of-sale software that enables you to sell products in a physical or a pop-up shop. In other words, POS is a checkout system that integrates with your Shopify webshop, ensuring that the data and figures from both sales channels are synchronized, providing you with an efficient solution.

The POS app can be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to accept payments if you have a card reader. Of course, you can also print receipts, process refunds, exchange items, check inventory, and everything you need to run a physical store.

When you use Shopify POS, you still only have one Shopify backend where POS is connected as an additional sales channel. The sales from your physical store will be visible in your Shopify dashboard. If you have multiple stores, you will also be able to see the distribution of these.The POS app can be used in multiple physical stores, depending on which Shopify subscription you have.
